Defective Hip Replacement Component

Hip surgery is a painful procedure, requiring weeks of rehabilitation before the patient can walk unassisted. Imagine having to go through that painful process twice because of the negligence of hip implant manufacturer.

Many hip replacement patients who were fitted with the Zimmer Durom cup required two surgeries: one surgery to replace their own worn-out hips and another after the first hip implant failed.

The Zimmer Durum cup was implanted in more than 12,000 patients in the U.S. between 2006 and 2008. These patients required revision surgeries at a much higher rate than normal.

About the Zimmer Durom Cup

The Zimmer Durom cup is a component of an implantable artificial hip. It is made by the Swiss manufacturer, Zimmer, the world's largest manufacturer of parts for artificial hips.

The Zimmer Durom cup was designed as an improvement over existing technologies. It supposedly involved less bone loss and provided greater stability and range of motion. After its introduction in the U.S. in 2006, many patients complained that the hip replacement did not relieve their pain. In fact, they were in greater agony months after the operation.

Zimmer has denied that their product is defective. However, they did suspend sales in the U.S. temporarily until it could provide user training and revise the instructions for surgical technique.
